[with nod to Yogi Berra] Unlike the preceding report (20-DEC-2020) this will be (comparatively) brief. On April 14th VSI released a V9.0-H EAK. The December report included Back to getting the WASD package onto x86-64. Well, it's done! and concluded I would expect the next significant WASD step would be "H1 2021 - OpenVMS V9.1 EAK for x86" with its native compilers. so why the report about -H? This latest EAK came with a new(-ish) TCP/IP stack, VSI TCP/IP Services 6.0. Considering this is something completely novel (to the EAK) and some of the EAK issues reported to VSI were with the previous stack, it was considered prudent to give it a workout. Pleased to report the privileged IP port issue is no longer present. Also, that WASD built and ran without significant issue. https://x86v2.vsm.com.au/ The build was performed exactly as described in the December report. https://wasd.vsm.com.au/other/#WASD_x86-64 In addition, a number of WASD ancillaries have been built and tested, aLaMode, MonDeSi, soyMAIL, and importantly - wuCME - so now the above site has a LE certificate and should happily be accepted by any browser. And to reiterate (yet again); I expect the next significant WASD step would be "H1 2021 - OpenVMS V9.1 EAK for x86" with its native compilers. However, just breaking... From: "Robert A. Brooks" Newsgroups: comp.os.vms Subject: Re: Applying community license Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2021 20:38:17 -0400 8< snip 8< The first release of V9.1 will not have native compilers. 8< snip 8< Similar to V9.0, there will be the same progression of V9.1 releases, as in V9.1, V9.1-A, V9.1-B, etc... So, looks like each of the V9.1-x will be evaluated on individual merit! It is planned to release a source-only, server code kit in the next week or so. This is intended for existing Alpha and IA64 sites to field-test the v12 server code, hopefully finding no regressions. Reminder; the server code has undergone widespread modification for native 64bit. Also, perchance you have an x86 EAK and wish to have WASD on it then drop me a line and I will provide a field-test full WASD kit for that purpose. A specific note of thanks to Jeremy Begg of VSM Software Services, who for decades now has made his company's systems available for WASD development, and in the epoch of the EAK, the x86-64 platform used for the WASD port. Regards, Mark.
