The    button allows the authentication credentials (username/password) associated with a soyMAIL session to be cancelled within the browser authentication cache. Logout may not be available for your platform or site. If unavailable the button appears as    and provides a message to that effect if pressed.

Reasons For Using Logout

• Needing to access the VMS Mail of another account (without closing the browser).

• Removes the need to completely close the browser to remove all traces of the previous authentication.

• With Internet kiosks or other public access points it provides another element of additional privacy (and security) that should be maintained by explicit clearing of the browser history and closing the application itself.

Procedure to Logout

• After clicking on the    button the browser will present an confirmation dialog**  containing a description of the steps required for a successful logout.

• Click on the    button and the browser will present a username/password dialog box.

  Click on    not to procede with the logout.

• Once at the username/password prompt the username and password fields should be empty.  If not then clear the fields.

• Click on the dialog    button once.

  When it is presented the second time click on the    button once.

• The browser should present a page with a message from the server indicating authentication is necessary.

  You should NOT see a page indicating you have NOT logged out!

Yes - it is messy but until browsers and/or HTTP support authentication cancellation in some way it is all we have!

NOTE: This method is not completely reliable but without browser support for this sort of functionality is the best that can be provided. Subsequent attempts to use soyMAIL should result in the presentation of a new username/password dialog. Without entering fresh credentials soyMAIL should not provide any access to mail. If it does then the browser has not purged the cached authentication details and this method should not be relied on in this instance!

If the soyMAIL session was established using authentication other than a username/password (e.g. digital certificate) the    button is not present.

NOTE: These instructions are for HTTP authentication.
